The buildings

Brooklyn buildings and their chutes

Brooklyn mixes brand-new towers with pre-war co-ops and big post-war complexes. The towers have tall metal chutes that see heavy use; the older buildings often have masonry chutes left from the incinerator era.

FAQ

Chute cleaning in Brooklyn: questions

Do new Brooklyn towers need chute cleaning?

Yes. A new tower’s metal chute starts clean, but hundreds of apartments using it every day build up grease fast, especially at the intake doors and the compactor. A schedule from the first year keeps odor and pest complaints from starting.

How often should a trash chute be cleaned?

It depends on the building. We recommend cleaning quarterly for hospitals, hotels and heavy-use buildings, twice a year for most apartment buildings, and at least once a year for everything else. NYC rules don’t set a frequency, but they do require chutes to be kept clean, sanitary and free of vermin and odors.

How much does trash chute cleaning cost?

Every building is quoted on its own. The price depends on the number of floors and chutes, whether the chute is pre-war masonry or post-war metal, how long since the last cleaning, access and scheduling, and add-ons like graffiti. Call (646) 391-7620 or send the address and Marshall will price it the same day.

Are you insured?

Yes. Chute Cleaning Division is insured in partnership with Select Exterminating, and we can send a certificate of insurance for your building or management company on request.
